Important Dates

You qualify for this Collin County exemption if you are 65 years of age or older. You can't claim a disability exemption if you claim this exemption.

You may receive the Over 65 exemption immediately upon qualification of the exemption by filing an application with the Collin County appraisal district office. You must apply before the first anniversary of your qualification date to receive the exemption in that year.

If you are the surviving spouse of someone who received the Over 65 exemption you can continue the exemption if you were 55 years old at the time of your spouse's death.

This exemption is not automatic. You must apply. All Collin County school districts must allow an Over 65 exemption. However, all other taxing units have the option of allowing the Over 65 exemption.
